This will be about NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirect Test Mission which impacted Dimorphos at approximately 6 km/s altering its orbit about its larger companion Didymos. This was the first test of the kinetic impact deflection technique that demonstrated how asteroids could be deflected away from Earth in the event of a potential asteroid impact scenario. This presentation will go over the mission objectives and goals, the encounter with the Didymos/Dimorphos, the results, and future efforts to characterize what we actually did to it (e.g., European Space Agency Hera Mission).
